Justin Sonder memorial bench
Solche e.V. supports the Justin Sonder bench project, a memorial to Justin Sonder, who was closely connected with Chemnitz's Brühl district. An Auschwitz survivor, he spoke to school classes and others about his experiences well into old age and fought against forgetting. The fitting sentence that also became the design's title is: “What have I achieved?”
About him: Wikipedia entry in German.
Justin Sonder, who became an honorary citizen of Chemnitz in 2017, is to be commemorated on the Brühl with a memorial near the school he attended. Solche e.V. supports this with money from CD sales and a campaign in which the association makes its bank account available.
Donation campaign:
For donations of €500 or more, donors' names are permanently recorded on the back of the memorial. Donations are collected by the International Auschwitz Committee, and everyone is of course free to donate directly to it: information in German.
Solche e.V. has devised a campaign for Brühl residents: the association collects small and very small donations, hoping their combined total exceeds €500, and transfers them together to the Auschwitz Committee so that the donor plaque reads “The residents of the Brühl”. We would love that, and ask everyone to contribute a small amount.
UPDATE: We did it! More than €1,600 was collected altogether.
Thank you to all donors!
UPDATE II: The memorial is in place. We are glad to have been part of it.
For tax purposes, proof of the transfer, such as a bank statement, serves as proof of donation for amounts up to €300. If a donation receipt is needed, we issue one.
