The band Solche

Solche on film...

SOLCHE are an acoustic rock band from Chemnitz in Saxony, Germany. The band consists of three members: Mario Krohn (cajón), Michael Focken (bass) and Holm Krieger (guitar/vocals). The band's approach rests on three pillars:

  1. fast, folk-influenced music,
  2. complex, carefully constructed lyrics in German, and
  3. consistent, concept-driven organisation.

Solche do not see themselves as a conventional rock band: their aim is not to set themselves apart from their social surroundings. They see themselves as a band that brings people together, as reflected in the wide range of events at which they have performed, from IG Metall trade union events to Rotary Club gatherings. With more than 500 concerts and their releases (three albums, an audiobook and a book), the band's history has shown that their blend of philosophy, partying and poetry has an audience. The Solche audience also uses concerts as a form of futures research: at a concert, you can hear which songs will appear on a Solche recording seven to ten years later.

About Solche

Something like a biography

The band's name expresses its approach. In German, “Solche” means “such people” or “those”: usually the people who are different, who stand in contrast to what “we” means. The band builds bridges across deep divides — the contradictions we have learned to live with. An energetic live band that puts plenty of love and thought into its concept albums.

A band that plays at a Rotary anniversary and a warning strike, at a punk festival and a gallery opening, in the city parliament and a squat, in the pedestrian precinct on its own doorstep and on Moscow's Red Square — and somehow fits in everywhere.

A band that accompanies a dazzling display of intricate lyrics with acoustic instruments (guitar, bass and cajón), playing as if there were no tomorrow.

That is Solche.

Founded in 2005 and widely travelled, often through cultural exchanges with Eastern Europe: 500 concerts (and 500 different set lists) across Germany, Russia, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Belarus; a book, four albums, and a small but determined fan base that follows the band's journey and supports it wherever possible.

That is Solche too.

The band's history is a collection of fascinating episodes that cannot all be told here. From the first album's release party on a historic tram to a dancing state premier, from concerts on scaffolding to performances in two different places at the same time.

What matters is that the journey continues.
